Our Upper West Side renovation provided an exciting opportunity to transform a prewar apartment for a young family who cherished the building’s historic charm but needed a more functional layout. The original space felt confined and outdated, prompting us to take the bold step of removing all the walls and starting anew. This allowed us to reimagine the apartment entirely, creating an open, flowing environment that perfectly suited our clients’ needs.

To honor the prewar character they adored, we integrated millwork details throughout, subtly referencing the apartment’s historic roots. A striking focal point was introduced in the main living area with the addition of a fireplace, sourced from a house in the UK, and complemented by a limestone hearth and surround featuring intriguing fossil patterns.

We also infused contemporary elements to elevate the overall design. Industrial-style glass doors were thoughtfully designed to partition the living spaces, while state-of-the-art smart home technology, including a Lutron lighting system and automated shades, provided seamless control and ambiance. Additionally, we collaborated with a mechanical engineer to design a discreet central air conditioning system, ensuring modern comfort without compromising the apartment’s aesthetic integrity.

The kitchen was expanded to enhance hosting capabilities, featuring a generous 10-foot island and a cleverly concealed pantry with access to the service entrance. The bespoke kitchen cabinets were crafted with a unique door profile tailored specifically for our clients.

The result is a harmonious blend of past and present, where timeless, bespoke millwork meets sleek, functional design—all enhanced by cutting-edge technology and modern comfort, perfectly tailored to the family's lifestyle.
