The owners of this project live overseas, and with their son attending school in NYC, they needed a home base for their visits. They wanted the space to feel like a true home while also being bold and playful for entertaining friends. What they loved about the apartment was the large living space and the incredible views of the Queensborough Bridge and Roosevelt Island cable car. However, the space needed a refresh to align with their vision.
Inspired by our client’s love of craft cocktails, vinyl records, and relaxed family time, we developed the concept of a "Cozy Speakeasy." While the kitchen had been updated by the previous owners, it felt too understated for the atmosphere they wanted to create. To better fit the theme, we painted the kitchen black, added custom cabinetry to establish a stylish dry-bar station, and introduced additional storage. The moody aesthetic continued throughout the apartment with deep, rich paint tones, complemented by warm cognac leathers and bold accents.
As an Australian native, our client also wanted to incorporate pieces from Australian artists and designers. Their collection of prints by Sidney Nolan influenced the striking wall colors, while a Florence Broadhurst wallpaper in the powder room added drama and character, reinforcing the home’s distinctive personality.
Patrick will separately be sending through Press info and some notes about which photos we want to feature and which we may want to remove from the projects.
Thanks!
